REMINISCENCE

PURIM

THE PAINTING DEPICTS THE COURTYARD OF ELIAHU ROUBEN'S HOUSE WHERE I
WAS BORN.
IN THE PATIO TWO LADIES ARE SITTING WITH TYPICAL BAGHDADI HAND FANS.
WOVEN FROM PALMTREE LEAVES. NOTICE THE SMALL GARDEN IN THE
COURTYARD.

PURIM WAS A VERY IMPORTANT FEAST FOR THE JEWS OF BAGHDAD ESPECIALLY
FOR THE CHILDREN. BAND OF MUSICIANS USED TO GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE,
PLAYING AND SINGING IN THE PRAISE OF THE HOUSE OWNER.
