REMINISCENCE
PURIM.
THE PAINTING DEPICTS THE COURTYARD OF THE
HOUSE WHERE I WAS BORN, THE HOUSE OF
ELIAHU ROUBEN WHO WAS MY GRANDMOTHER
AZIZA'S FATHER.
IN THE PATIO TWO LADIES ARE SITTING WITH
TYPICAL BAGHDADI HAND FANS, WOVEN FROM
PALM TREE LEAVES. NOTICE THE SMALL
GARDEN IN THE COURTYARD.
PURIM WAS A VERY IMPORTANT FEAST FOR THE
JEWS OF BAGHDAD ESPECIALLY FOR THE
CHILDREN. BANDS OF MUSIC PLAYERS USED TO
GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE, PLAYING
AND SINGING SONGS IN PRAISE OF THE HOUSE
OWNER.
AT RIGHT IS THE MAQUETTE
THAT I CONSTRUCTED FROM
MEMORY OF ELIAHU
ROUBEN'S HOUSE. IT WAS
USED AS REFERANCE FOR
ABOVE PAINTING.
